Currently, I host every picture on Neocities. I find it the easiest for my purposes. This may change if I need to host many pictures and if Neocities doesn't allow it. It already doesn't allow .PDFs, videos, and sound files, so I have to use alternative hosting for those, such as Youtube for videos and file-sharing sites like Filecat.
I've also tried Twitter, Tumblr, and many of their alternatives, but I didn't like their lack of gallery (Twitter...) and I'm currently taking a break from social media. Furaffinity is fine as a gallery. Now, I'm really enjoying the control that Neocities offers. I purposefully keep my pages simple to have good control over the site's behavior. It requires using third-parties websites for communication (such as CuriousCat) but the core website is staticly Web 1.0.
A server and a website is probably the safest and most reliable solution and it's not much more complicated than using Neocities (for what I do) but it's not my priority right now.
To sum up, I'm experimenting and focusing on Neocities right now, using almost only what they offer. This may change or not depending on my future needs. Good luck on your endeavors! I hope to see your art gallery one day.

I assume you're referring to this mega. Short answer: I don't know for sure! Long answer: I suspect that Mega changed its policies to restrict the storing size granted to free accounts (like mine). I probably missed warning emails, and they just deleted things willy-nilly. I think I've lost more than a few drawings in there. It's too bad, but my philosophy is that if I've done it once, I can do it again (it would help if I remembered what I've lost though).
